Championship Divisions 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A:
Preliminary Freestyle Information

In the Championship divisions (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A) there will a 1-minute preliminary freestyle to qualify the top players into the freestyle finals. The top qualifying players in each division will be advanced to the 3-minute Freestyle Final. Each competitor will have 1-minute on stage to perform a freestyle in the style of play in the division they have entered. Players may enter more than one division.

All players are reminded that they must pre-register if they intent to compete in any of the Championship divisions. Please go to the registration page.

Players who will be competing in the preliminary freestyle of any championship division must be prepared with an appropriate music CD if they wish to use their own music. This CD must meet all of the requirements shown in the general rules for the championship divisions.

The preliminary freestyle replaces the "Compulsory Tricks" used in previous contests.

Each preliminary freestyle will have required trick elements that must be presented as part of the freestyle. It is up to each player to determine how they will incorporate each element into his or her preliminary freestyle performance. It is the players responsibility to ensure that each trick element is presented and completed in a manner that will be obvious to the judging panel.

Scoring for the preliminary freestle will be broken down into two catergories, attempted technical elements (ATE), and technical execution (TE).

As an example, the 1A division has 5 required elements, each element will be worth 5 points if it successfully completed. So the maximum ATE score for 1A will total 25 points. The remaining 25 points will be made up from the TE score for all of the other tricks performed in the preliminary freestyle for a total of 50 points.

Normal deductions will be taken for missed strings, losses of control, missed binds, changing out the yo-yo due to jammed strings, etc.

Some judges will be scoring ATE, while others will be scoring TE.

Trick elements may be presented in any order and at any time during the preliminary freestyle.

For the 1A division, the following elements will be required:
