The U.S. National SpinTop Contest
is the premier SpinTop competition in the United States and is held annually
in Chico, California in conjunction with the National Yo-Yo Contest on
the first Saturday of October.
Improvements in the design and manufacture of the yo-yo have recently
crept into the SpinTop world. Ball-bearing tips that spin freely and independent
of the top have dramatically changed the tricks that are done.
Currently there are two divisions, players may compete in either division
(not both). The Sport Division is open to players of all abilities and
is a 30-trick ladder with increasingly difficult compulsory tricks.
The Championship Division consists of 10 very difficult compulsory tricks,
followed by a freestyle performance by the eight players with the highest
compulsory scores. Only the Championship Division carries a U.S. National
title.
