National Spin-Top ContestThe title 'National Spin-Top Champion' will be awarded this year in a contest held in conjunction with the National Yo-Yo Contest. For several years we have held exploratory spin-top contests in the hopes more players around the country would develop the skills for a truly competitive championship. This is the year it all comes together Design improvements to the Spin-Top have revolutionized the 'cherished childhood toy' into an exciting new sport. Spin-Top players today are quick to develop skills, and create astonishing tricks. Our Spin-Top contest will consist of two divisions. The challenging Sport division will be held for the beginning and intermediate players The Championship division will be for the advanced players. The Sport division will be a ladder contest where you keep going if you are making the tricks, but must stop when you miss two tricks. There will be 6 age levels in this division. First place awards will be presented in the following age levels: 10 & under, 11-12, 13-16, 17-29, 30-44, 45 & over. Any top may be used for the ladder contest, you may change tops at any time. All tricks must end with a spinner for 5 seconds either in hand or as directed by instructions. Players will get two attempts at each trick only. A players score is determined when a player has missed a second try on two tricks. Points will be determined as follows: 5 points for each trick completed on first try, 3 points for each trick completed on second try if needed. The winner is the player who went furthest up the ladder (last trick completed, first or second try), if a tie, player who went furthest on ladder before first miss on second try. If more than one player completes the ladder with no misses, then the tiebreaker will be roller coaster with judge directed variations. In the Championship division awards will be given to the first three places. The contest will consist of 10 compulsory tricks to determine the top ten scores, who will freestyle. All tricks must be done exactly as described and shown in the video. All tricks must end with a spinner for 5 seconds either in hand or as directed by instructions. The trick list consists of 10 tricks, 5 tricks done with a fixed tip
and 5 tricks done with a bearing tip. Players get two attempts at each
trick. Points will be determined as follows: Ties will be broken by double reps of Roller Coaster, then Drumbeat, and then Bermuda Triangle and double reps again until tie is broken. We hope this creates the opportunity for all players to do their best, and helps maintain our historic connection to the past. To be the best on a given day is quite an achievement and all past players have felt better for the attempt. Competing at a National level venue is an experience one remembers for a lifetime. |
